Group of 8 (De-collage)

Group of 8 (De-collage)

These pieces relate to the group of 8 living willow sculptures in that the leaves used in the making of each where collected from the individual tree that they relate to. What I really like about these is how the organic shapes slowly reveal themselves as they are sanded back and, even as some fracture and break away, they leave a space where they have been. The layering of paper strips, horizontally and vertically, hint towards a grid like structure, and the square board adds to this, that is broken apart by the organic shapes- the randomness of nature. I like how they make you want to look closer, and when you are rewarded with the details.
